Walls

I was reading the first two chapters of Nehemiah, and yes at 12:00 a.m. on a school night, welcome to my life in IB lol. Anyways, I sometimes forget to pray before I read the Bible and ask God to reveal His Word unto me, but this time I felt like God was going to show me something for sure. I made sure I prayed and went on reading. As many of you know, the book of Nehemiah is about the King of Israel’s cupbearer who sees the walls in Judah destroyed and seeing the city just in chaos because of it. He gets under a burden from God to go and rebuild the walls. Now, he got more opposition and more adversity rebuilding the wall than when the original builders endured when they first put it up. However, he did not let the scoffers get to him, but instead he just dusted his feet off and kept on going, Praise God! He gathered all the people who desired to do a work for God and be apart of the things of God and those who criticized went to Starbucks and complained over their $6 mocha. So, Nehemiah achieved his goal finally and got the wall put back up

Well, let’s put some analysis to this story and apply it to our lives. First, of all, I believe every Christian needs to put walls up their lives. Walls that protect them from doing certain things that will lead them to sin, that are sin, and even just something that does not really seem right to do as a Christian. We all need them. Walls protect us from going to the crackhouse when we just got delivered from, why would you tempt yourself like that? That is where walls come in handy. However, Judah had a breach in their wall. It was crumbled and up in flames. They were open to the enemy to just blow in there and just demolish them. But, thank God for a man of God that is willing to get under the burden and stand up to say “hey there needs to be some walls in Zion!” You ought to thank God for your pastor that loves and cares for you everyday! Now, putting up the walls in our lives were relatively easy, I mean it took some getting used to and all that, but it was not too bad. However, just like in Jerusalem, if those walls come down it is so hard to get those walls as strong as they were, as tall as they were, and as structured and all that as they once were. I am not saying that it is impossible to be the same after you make a mistake and you let your walls down, because that is hogwash and do not let the devil play that guilt trip on you as that will have you turned upside-down and inside out. However, we can still go “before the throne of grace with boldness” as Jesus Christ died on Calvary’s Cross for all of our sins and that blood came streaming down for you, Hallelujah! I can go on all day about walls and that aspect of our walk with God forever, but let me just sum it up for you. We need walls in our lives or else we are open to the enemy to waltze right in. Furthermore, if we let our walls down, do not have a pity party and go on a guilt trip, but realize our Savior died for us and it’s okay, just make it right with God and build those walls back up again. Build them up in an old fashioned red, hot prayer meeting and strengthen it with daily prayer, fasting, and revival in our soul. Revival in our soul? Yes I said that, because if you are doing nothing concerning the things of God I can guarantee you are bored and thinking bad things about being in church. Go out and knock some doors, get some Bible Studies, win some souls!

“And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach:the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven (Nehemiah 1:3-4),”
